What’s your experience as a professional editor?
I've been a professional freelance editor for almost 20 years and was a career editor before that. I've worked on two continents, managed journals, edited published books, and helped hundreds of writers get their work from draft to final submission or publication.
Where do I tell you how many words I have?
Please contact me before ordering. There is a "Number of words" box on the gig page. Or, in your first message, tell me how many words you want me to edit, your deadline, and the topic. I'll reply with an Offer.
Our work is confidential. Will you keep it confidential?
Absolutely. I will never share your work or ideas with anyone else, and I am the only person who will see your work. I can sign an NDA if you'd like.
What qualifications do you have?
I have a degree in journalism and post-graduate qualifications and training in copy editing.
Will you follow a style/brand guide or edit to specific instructions?
Yes, I can edit and proofread to almost any style or brand guide or to your special instructions. Just send me your instructions, a copy of your brand or style guide, or let me know if you want me to follow an existing style guide like AP, APA, MLA, Harvard, or Chicago.
Will you keep my writing style and approach?
Yes, I edit with sensitivity to ensure that your thoughts, ideas, and research come through. I also ensure that your writing is clear, concise, and easy to understand. I edit for flow and comprehension so you get your point across in the most effective way.
What file types do you edit?
It’s easiest for me to work in MS Word or Google Docs, and I’ll track changes wherever possible. I can also proofread PDFs, edit presentations, and copy content directly from your website. I have gig extras for editing in those formats.
Do you check facts, read references, or check the veracity of my statements?
No, I don’t check the facts or truth of your writing or claims. I’ll ensure your work is grammatically correct, easy to read, in correct English, and can alert you to inconsistencies. I don’t fact-check, check for plagiarism, or read your links, references, or citations.
