Hey there! My name is Tori Joy and I'm so happy you're here!
I've been a performer and songwriter for 10+ years, and an online vocal coach for 3+ years. I have a Bachelor's of Music Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Kansas, where I received training in vocal pedagogy and physiology. I am a classically trained soprano, but I sing music of many different genres, including pop, R&B, rock, country, and my own original music.
To help you get to where you wish to be in your singing ability, I will work toward your specific personal goals by teaching individualized techniques and repertoire that will be beneficial and suitable to your unique voice.
You will learn about:

- building vocal endurance
- finding your voice that is true to you!

Hey there! I'm Tori Joy and I'm a singer-songwriter who has been teaching online voice lessons since June 2020. I earned a Bachelor’s of Music Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Kansas, where I studied vocal pedagogy with training in vocal anatomy/physiology. I now live in Fargo, North Dakota, where I work as a performing musician and recording artist. Some of my favorite hobbies include cooking, reading, traveling, yoga, and candle making. My teaching style is very creative, encouraging, and customized to fit each student. I'm excited to help you reach your goals!

What is your typical process for teaching a new student?
After discussing your musical experience and vocal heath, I’ll conduct a series of exercises to assess the parts of your voice (range, tessitura, breath, onset, support, resonance, and diction). Together, we will then come up with a list of goals to work toward as well as repertoire to learn.
What types of students have you worked with?
Currently, my students range from ages 5-55. I have worked with students with all different levels of musical and vocal ability.
How did you get started teaching voice lessons?
I started teaching voice lessons during my vocal pedagogy course in my junior year of college (Fall 2018). I was the vocal instructor for a rock camp for the youth of Lawrence, KS called Amplify Lawrence (June 2020). I started my own online voice studio in August of 2020.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
-Bachelor’s of Music in Voice Performance (University of Kansas, 2020) -2 years of voice lessons with Kenzie Phillips, 1 year with Dr. Crystal Buck and 3 years with Dr. Genaro Méndez -Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification (November 28th, 2020)
What kind of singing style do you teach?
As a classically trained singer, I teach vocal techniques that are traditionally used in classical settings and apply them to many types of music from opera and musical theatre, to pop and r&b music. I have experience with a wide range of genres! You can hear some of my original music in my gallery!
