My preferred method of making beats is to sample from vinyl and arrange them on my MPC 2000XL, which gives the beats a great sound and feeling, and I am familiar with how the MPC works, from there I can add to the beat accordingly with Logic Pro or GarageBand to create original compositions over the sample, as well as add live instruments if needed.
