I run Stepwise Media, an independent publisher on Amazon KDP, and I produce every book myself, from the manuscript to the files KDP prints. Our current series, College Money Guides 2027-28, has five paperback and Kindle titles for American students and parents. They include FAFSA 2027-28, which reached the top twenty in its Amazon category within weeks of launch with no advertising, and The Scholarship Book 2027-2028, a 686-page A4 directory of 5,477 entries. What I do on every book: - Typeset the interior in the chosen trim size: margins and gutter set for the page count, chapter openings, running heads, page numbers, table of contents, tables and indexes - Build the full paperback cover wrap on KDP's template, with the spine sized to the exact page count and space kept for the barcode - Produce the Kindle ebook edition alongside the paperback - Check every file in KDP's previewer before upload, so it goes through first time - Prepare the listing: title, subtitle, description, keywords and categories Beyond this series I've produced more than twenty paperbacks across other imprints, including narrative history, puzzle books and journals, from 100-page guides to 700-page books. Short or long, plain text or dense tables, each one has gone live on Amazon.
