As an IT consultant, I worked with large German law firms (Großkanzleien) on the systems and processes their lawyers and staff depend on every day. My role was consulting and project work, not day-to-day IT support. A big part of my work was analysis. I sat down with partners, associates, assistants and the internal IT teams to understand how they actually worked with their software, where time was lost and which problems kept coming back. From that, I wrote clear requirements and recommendations that both management and technical teams could act on. I supported the firms in choosing and introducing new software. That meant comparing vendors, checking whether a solution really fit the firm's workflows, planning the rollout and making sure the people using it were brought along instead of having a new tool forced on them. I also worked as the link between the firms, external vendors and developers. Lawyers and developers often talk past each other, so I translated legal and business needs into technical terms and the other way around, which kept projects moving and avoided expensive misunderstandings.
