Supporting Beyond The Wire required legal oversight of a business operating where digital content, technology, intellectual property, and online communities intersect. I handled matters that could affect the company’s ability to develop, publish, distribute, and commercially exploit its creative and digital assets. Much of my work began with ownership. I reviewed the rights attached to software, artwork, audiovisual material, music, written content, trademarks, and other creative contributions, ensuring that work produced by employees, contractors, developers, and external collaborators could be used for its intended commercial purposes. Commercial negotiations covered technology vendors, development partners, content creators, marketing relationships, licensing arrangements, and digital distribution opportunities. Rather than treating agreements as routine paperwork, I examined how provisions concerning revenue, intellectual property, confidentiality, warranties, termination, and liability could affect the company after a project was launched. Online operations created their own legal challenges. I addressed user terms, community standards, privacy considerations, account enforcement, user generated content, infringement complaints, promotional activities, and disputes arising from the use or distribution of digital material. When conflicts developed over ownership, contractual performance, unauthorized content use, or commercial obligations, I evaluated the underlying evidence and available remedies before determining the appropriate response. The position ultimately required balancing creative freedom and technological development with effective protection of Beyond The Wire’s rights, content, and commercial opportunities.
