I offer editing services focusing on the mechanics of the text and valuing the writer's voice. Above all, I want to make the text clear and the author's voice shine. But as any editor, I act as an advocate for the readers. I ensure the text is accessible and marketable to its target audience.
Stylistic edits are a key part of my work, as I will ensure any text conforms to your chosen style. I will even create a style sheet for you while I edit so you have something to use next time you write.
For my workflow, I prefer to work in Microsoft Office, but I can work with any file type or even on physical copies.
Unless you specify otherwise, I will use track changes to document every change I make to your text. I will also create a clean copy where all the edits are finalized. This way, you can see everything I've altered on one copy but also have something you can use immediately. I also leave comments on the document for any substantial edits so you can understand why I made changes.
I edit: fiction, non-fiction, short stories, journal articles, blog posts, website copy, emails, cover letters, and résumés.
I do not edit: legal contracts or poetry.

Yes, I have regularly worked with American English, British English, and Australian English. I use a different dictionary for each, so let me know which one you use.
What is Proofreading
Proofreading is the last step before publication, essentially a final quality check with minor grammar, spelling, and style corrections. I will also review the typesetting and layout of your manuscript, making minor corrections according to the style guide.
What Is Copyediting?
Copyediting focuses on the mechanics of the text following the rules of a given style guide. This encompasses editing for advanced grammar, punctuation, referencing, consistency, clarity, and style errors.
What is Line Editing?
Line editing is an in-depth look at the tone and structure of the text. Line editing means going line-by-line to ensure sentences are precise, consistent, and flow naturally. Typical line edits will examine the uses of voice, syntax, word choice, style choices, filter words, dialogue, and pacing.
What is included in a critique?
I will read the story and provide my thoughts on the overall plot and structure. I will also give comments on how you could improve in certain areas. This stage is very similar to beta reading, except I will use my experience editing to give more focused, objective feedback.
