Software localization is harder than it looks. UI strings need to fit character limits, match tone across hundreds of files, and stay consistent with both the brand voice and the platform conventions (iOS vs Android vs Web all have different language norms in Chinese).

I do this carefully. Native Mandarin, near-native English, Master's in Computer Systems Management, and I read code so I can work with strings files in their native formats and preserve placeholders correctly.

  • JSON / XML / YAML / .strings / .po / .properties / .resx string files
  • Markdown developer documentation and README files
  • API reference documentation
  • Help center articles and product onboarding flows
  • Release notes and changelogs
  • Error messages and tooltips

Placeholders and code preserved exactly: {{username}}, %s, %1$d, {variable}, ICU plurals, HTML tags all left intact, only the surrounding text translated.

Bonus: While translating I often spot source-language issues (typos, awkward phrasings, untranslatable idioms). I flag them in a separate notes file so you can improve the English original too.
