During my research internship at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway, I worked on developing computer vision and deep learning solutions for automated fish monitoring and analysis. The project involved working with large-scale marine image datasets, where I performed data annotation, preprocessing, and model development for fish species detection and classification. Using technologies such as Python, OpenCV, Roboflow, and YOLOv8, I developed models capable of identifying different fish species and detecting key anatomical features such as the head and tail through pose estimation techniques. I also built image processing and evaluation pipelines to improve model accuracy and reliability on real-world marine data. This experience allowed me to apply machine learning and computer vision techniques to practical challenges in fisheries research, contributing to the development of intelligent systems for marine ecosystem monitoring and sustainable resource management.
