At Van Oord, I am currently working as an interim BI developer, responsible for designing and developing data pipelines, data models, and report templates within Power BI as part of the Founding the Future program team. My work focuses on optimizing Power BI DAX measures, improving data models, and enhancing query runtimes and performance using Server Timings in DAX Studio and Tabular Editor. Key Responsibilities and Achievements: Design and Development: Optimization of DAX measures and data models, resulting in faster and more efficient Power BI reports, such as improved reporting for Project KPIs, Contract Value Summary, Baseline Schedule, and Staff Schedule. Performance Improvement: Analyzing and enhancing query runtimes and visualization load times using DAX Studio and Tabular Editor. Process Improvement: Maintaining a critical eye on process improvements and benchmarking cost estimates against actual costs for project forecasting and management. Data Management: Collaborating closely with the Data & Analytics team to ensure security, data governance, standardized workflows, and best practices. Reporting and Documentation: Documenting and reporting performance improvements and creating user manuals. These optimization initiatives have led to significant improvements in project control at Van Oord. For example, we managed to reduce the load time of one of the key visualizations from over 24 seconds to just over 3 seconds by rewriting a complex chain of financial measures and data tables.
